Meet our Costa Rica washed coffee, grown high in the hills of Heredia by the women of Coopelibertad's Mujeres en Libertad project. This traditional washed-process coffee delivers a silky body with notes of caramelized brown sugar, spiced apple, and cocoa — a smooth, candy-like cup that's amazing in a pourover, drip brewer, or espresso machine.

Every bag of this Costa Rica coffee tells the story of the women behind it. In 2023, a group of women associates at formed a Gender Equity Commission — a program built to train, support, and promote the work of women within the cooperative. Mujeres en Libertad is the direct result: a coffee harvested from more than 35 farms, all managed by women producers.

For every 69kg bag exported, Coopelibertad pays a additional "Gender Prize" directly to this group of women, reinvested into the farms that grow this coffee. When you buy this bag, part of what you're paying for goes straight back into that program.

The Women Behind This Coffee

In 2023, a group of women producers at Coopelibertad came together to form a Gender Equity Commission — a program designed to train, mentor, and promote women's leadership within the cooperative. Café Mujeres en Libertad grew out of that effort. Today, more than 35 women-managed farms contribute to this single lot, and for every bag exported, Coopelibertad pays an additional "Gender Prize" back to the group — money the women themselves direct toward investments that grow their farms. It's a coffee you can taste good about drinking.

Noah, Costa Rica Washed Coffee FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions On Our Costa Rica Washed Coffee

What is washed process coffee?

Washed (or "fully washed") coffee has its fruit pulp removed before drying, which produces a clean, bright cup that lets the bean's natural sweetness and acidity come through clearly — this is the traditional method most people picture when they think of coffee.

Is this coffee fair trade?

Yes. This coffee is Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance certified, and the cooperative's Gender Prize program provides an additional direct payment to the women who grow it.

How should I brew this Costa Rica washed coffee?

It's versatile — brew it as drip coffee, pourover, or pull it as espresso. Its medium roast and silky body hold up well across all three methods.

What makes Mujeres en Libertad different from other Costa Rica coffees?

It's grown, harvested, and managed entirely by a group of 35 women producers through a dedicated gender-equity program at Coopelibertad, with direct financial support built into every export.

What is the best Costa Rica coffee for pourover?

This washed-process Costa Rica coffee, with its silky body and balanced sweetness, is one of our top picks for pourover — the clean washed process lets the brown sugar and cocoa notes come through clearly.

How long do your Costa Rica coffee beans last?

Our Costa Rica coffee beans are typically best when brewed between 11 to 21 days after roasting. While you can still enjoy them after this period, you may notice a gradual loss of aromatics and flavor over time.

What is the best storage method for your coffee beans?

To keep your Costa Rica coffee at peak freshness, store it in a cool, dry place in an airtight container. We do not recommend freezing coffee beans unless you do not plan to use them within several months.

Do you only sell this coffee as whole bean?

Yes, we offer Noah as whole bean to preserve maximum freshness and flavor. Grinding just before brewing ensures the best possible cup.

How long will it take to receive my Papua New Guinea coffee?

Once your order is placed, we begin preparing and roasting your coffee fresh. Orders typically arrive within 5 to 7 days, ensuring you receive freshly roasted Costa Rica coffee.

What are your sourcing standards for this coffee?

At Laidrey, we work directly with specialty coffee farms in renowned growing regions. This Costa Rica coffee is sourced through direct trade with Coopelibertad, a Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance certified cooperative, supporting quality, sustainability, and the women behind each harvest.
