Meet Aiden — our Costa Rica natural process coffee, grown at Finca La Guaca, one of Café Rivense's high-elevation growing areas at 1,600 masl in the Chirripó micro-region. This fruit-forward natural process coffee delivers notes of dried strawberry, sugarcane, and general fruitiness — a light-medium roast built for flash brew or pourover.

Café Rivense is a family-run farm and micromill founded in 2005 by Régulo Ureña and Isabel Rojas, now run alongside their children. Fully traceable from cherry to export, Aiden celebrates high-elevation growing and natural processing done right.

Meet Café Rivense

Founded in 2005 by Régulo Ureña and Isabel Rojas, Café Rivense is a family operation in the Brunca area of Costa Rica, run today alongside their children Ricardo, Mario, Esteban, Luis, and Tatiana. What makes Rivense unusual is that cherry never leaves the farm until it's fully processed — their own wet and dry mills mean every step, from picking to export-ready green coffee, happens on-site. One of their lots placed 5th in Costa Rica's 2019 Cup of Excellence competition. Sustainability runs through the whole operation: shade management builds healthy soil, fertilizer is used only when necessary, and water sources are protected across the Chirripó micro-region — right alongside Costa Rica's highest peak.

POUR OVER COFFEE BEANS FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions On Our Pour Over Coffee

What is natural process coffee?

Natural process coffee is dried with the fruit still fully intact around the bean, rather than removed first. As the cherry dries, sugars from the fruit are absorbed into the bean, producing a heavier body and bold, fruit-forward flavor notes.

What is the best coffee for pourover?

This natural process Costa Rica coffee, with its fruit-forward sweetness and full body, is one of our top picks for pourover — the natural process lets the dried strawberry and sugarcane notes come through clearly.

How should I brew this natural process coffee?

Pourover and flash brew both highlight this coffee's fruit and sugarcane notes especially well — pourover for a clean, controlled cup, flash brew for something bright and refreshing over ice.

What does high elevation coffee taste like?

Coffee grown above 1,500 masl, like this lot at 1,600 masl, tends to develop more complex acidity and a denser bean structure, which often translates to brighter, more layered flavor in the cup.

Is Costa Rica coffee good for espresso?

This particular lot is roasted light-medium and built for flash brew or pourover, where its fruit-forward notes come through most clearly — for an espresso-focused Costa Rica coffee, see Noah, our washed lot instead.

How long do your pour over coffee beans last?

Our whole coffee beans are typically best when brewed between 11 to 21 days after roasting. While you can definitely still enjoy our coffee beans after this time frame, after 21 days you will find it begins to lose its aromatics and fragrance.

What is the best storage method for your pour over coffee?

To keep our organic pour over coffee beans at the highest level of freshness for as long as possible, we recommend storing your coffee in a cool and dry vacuum sealed container. We also advise against freezing our coffee beans to preserve their delicate flavor and freshness, unless you do not plan on consuming it within 6 months.

Do you only sell your pour over coffee as whole bean coffee?

Laidrey Coffee Roasters sells our pour over coffee as whole bean coffee to provide you with the best and most fresh coffee selections. Selling our organic coffee as whole bean allows us to ensure you get the most flavor out of each of our signature coffees when they are ground fresh right before brewing.

How long will it take to receive my pour over whole bean coffee?

As soon as you place your order for our pour over coffee beans, we begin fulfilling your order and roasting your fresh coffee. Our expert roasters micro-roast each selection per order, with orders arriving within 5 to 7 days to your door.

What are your buying standards for your pour over coffee?

Laidrey Coffee Roasters prides itself on working with the best local farms in renowned coffee growing regions across the globe. We only source our organic coffees, including our favorite pour over coffee, from specialty grade farms that are either female owned, female led, or family run farms. We believe in working with farms that bring a sense of community to their production and sourcing processes, ensuring that each bag of specialty coffee you buy also enriches the local community our seasonal coffee comes from.

In addition, our single-origin coffees all come from farms that are part of the Rainforest Alliance, working with sustainable measures and practices that produce award-winning coffees while promoting continued growth to the rich and biodiverse areas they reside in.

We focus on farms that provide aid to their community, including education and healthcare incentives.

Where does your pour over coffee come from?

Our organic coffee beans are 100% Arabica and sourced from the best coffee growing regions throughout the world. We small batch roast our coffee, focusing on developing the unique flavors that each coffee has to offer. Our current pour over coffee comes from Peru.

Our focus is on sourcing single origin coffee from microlots and we believe that great products are sustainably harvested. This is where our tagline, ethically sourced, meticulously roasted, and freshly brewed stems from, and remains true for each bag of coffee and drink we roast for you right in our shops in Los Angeles, California.
